The orphanages and schools have many long term plans that will enable them to provide for the less fortunate
children of Laos. In the
meantime, however, they need to contend with the more immediate needs of the
children, which are to be healthy, well-clothed and educated.
The orphanages and schools
lack nearly all the basics needs of a child. To be able to provide the children with the care they need and
deserve, there must be an
ample and
continuous supply of
nutritious food,
clean water, medicines, clothing, personal hygiene items, general cleaning items
and school supplies. Some of our goals will take time to achieve, but they are
all achievable.
Some of the current immediate
needs are listed below, along with the costs of providing each of them.

Basic Toiletries / Food
Each month we provide every child with basics such as soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, washing detergent,
tins of fish, instant noodles and yoghurt drinks (the children only get one meal a day at weekends so they eat the extra food when they are hungry, plus the fish and yoghurt provide extra protein in their diet).
Cost = $US3.00 per child

Protein Meal
Every 2 weeks Ruth's family cooks noodle soup with extra meat for protein and delivers it to every child.
Cost = $US1.00 per child

School Uniform Shirts
Each child has one white shirt for their school uniform. However, almost every child desperately needs a new one as their current ones are about a year old and are tatty and falling apart with holes etc.
Cost = $US2.50 each

T-shirts
As winter approaches, the children layer t-shirts under their school uniforms to keep them warm. Many children don't have a t-shirt (or if they do it comprises more holes than shirt!). This also means that they live in their school uniforms and so can never wash them.

Trousers for the Boys
At the moment the orphanage needs about 200 pairs. Most of the boys' trousers have broken zippers and they tie them up with bits of string etc. Many are too small or way too big and with holes etc. in them.
Cost = $US3.50 a pair

Skirts (Sins) for the Girls
At the moment the orphanage desperately needs about 50 of them, mainly for the new girls that have arrived this year.
Cost = $US3.00 each

Sandshoes
Most of the children only wear flimsy sandals (or flip-flops). However for the cold days of winter which are fast approaching, they each need sturdier, stronger shoes.
Cost = $US2.00 a pair

Fruit Trees
